W. Jansen (played by Scott Glenn).

When Ward appears with his co-worker, Yardley Acheman (played by David Oyelowo), to investigate a story for his newspaper, Ward asks his brother to guide them through the city. The reason is there is Ward Charlotte Bless (played by Nicole Kidman), an enigmatic lone woman writing to prisoners on death row who have been convinced that Hillary Van Wetter (played by John Cusack), an unpleasant Crocodile Hunter, has been wrongly convicted in a trial that took place in his hometown.

As the investigation progresses, we discover that the path along which these brothers is full of treachery. The only constant element in this process is this strange and beautiful woman who falls for murderers, and passion could be the undoing of all.
